HELP FOR HAITI

You can drop kits and/or cash off at the church anytime. The deadline is February 28th.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Bruce Gardow and I am pastor of the Durand United Methodist Church, just southeast of Eau Claire, My Son is Senior Airman Grant Gardow.  He is attached to the 573rd Global Support Squadron and is currently stationed in Haiti.  His squadron supplies humanitarian aid throughout the world in times of need.  He has been many places and seen many disasters but he told me nothing compares to the utter devastation he is experiencing in Haiti.  Being a good United Methodist he is very familiar with the contents of our health kits and he has told me that they desperately need them.

NOTE: The kits should NOT be pre-assembled in Ziploc bags.    They will be assembled at Midwest Mission Distribution Center

Health Kits (all new items in a wrapper) should include: 1 hand towel, 1 wash cloth, 1 comb, 1 finger nail clipper, 1 bar of soap (3 oz. or larger), 1 toothbrush, 1 toothpaste (3.5 oz. or larger), 6 plain plastic adhesive bandage strips, and $1 per kit for shipping.

Layette Kits (all new items) should include 6 cloth diapers, 2 undershirts or onesies, 2 baby washcloths, 2 gowns or sleepers, 2 diaper pins, 1 sweater (optional), 2 receiving blankets (not quilted or knitted), and $1 or shipping.

Deadline: Sunday, Feb. 28

HELP FOR HAITI INFORMATION

UMCORThe United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has close ties with the Methodist Church in Haiti and is responding to the devastating earthquake with funding, material resources and prayers. UMCOR has worked in Haiti for many years. We anticipate that there will be years of rebuilding needed and are prepared to work with the people to help them through that process.” Working with partners, Action by Churches Together, Church World Service, Global Medic and the Methodist Church, UMCOR is channeling its resources to respond effectively to the people most in need. For more information on how The United Methodist Church is responding to the Haiti disaster, visit www.umc.org/haiti or www.umcor.org.

vHow to Donate: At this time, it is not safe or possible for volunteers to go to Haiti. People wishing to volunteer should contact their jurisdictional VIM coordinator to determine when and how to appropriately respond. Pastors and outreach committees are urged to take an offering for the Haiti Emergency or you can also give online at the UMCOR website. Checks for the Haiti relief effort can be mailed to the Wisconsin Conference Treasurer for Fund #6010.
